Our History

The Roamers were established Saturday, May 11, 1991.  Lewis R.V in Oklahoma City mailed letters to all customers they had sold King of the Road trailers inviting them to meet at Trent Park in Dell City, OK.    Charlie Lewis and Chuck Lewis, owners of Lewis RV, hosted a hamburger and hotdog dinner with all the trimmings and a get acquainted time for all the KOTR owners. After we ate all we could hold we had a business meeting and voted to form a travel club just for owners of KOTR trailers.

Elected officers were: President - Wes & Helen Brown, Vice President - Charley & Delores Lewis, Sec./Treas. - Jeannine & Ed Grace.

The Lewis's had a magician come in and entertain us, the magician made a $20.00 dollar bill disappear, then he mysteriously found the twenty again.   He also made Carroll Maxwell swallow a sword.

Those in attendance were:
Baldwin, Joe & Dean            Brown, Wes & Helen
Carpenter, Joe & Shirley      Crumley, Albert & Rose
Flaming, Emery & Leota      Grace, Edward & Jeannine
Griffith, Ted & Ann              Lewis, Charley & Delores
Lewis, Chuck & Liz              Lusby, Joe & Dee
Maxwell, Les & Carroll        McGraw, Virgil & Ruth
Nosalek, Earle & Helen        Phillips, John & Louise
Poling, Francis & Louise      Smithson, Everett & Velva
Crookshank, Robert & Barbara

Our first campout was held May 31 to June 2, 1991, at Foss Lake.  There were 12 King of the Road units participating.  Our first potluck dinner was a memorable one.  Just as we were filling our plates the skies opened up and we had a downpour. Even with the storm the food and fellowship were still outstanding.

We had two more members join at our first campout.  They were Billy & Patty Groves and Wayne & Mary Anne Harrell.

The next campout was at Fort Gibson Lake, July 18-21, 1991.  This started the many fantastic adventures that the Roamers have had.
